SCRIPTURE:
And the Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
(Deuteronomy 28:11)
DEVOTIONAL:
Deuteronomy 28 is often called “The Blessing” chapter. The first 14 verses in this chapter describe the blessings God gave to Abraham and his descendants. Because Christ is the Seed of Abraham, if you are in Him, then you, too, are heir to these promises through your relationship with Jesus.
This week, let’s focus in on today’s scripture (verse 11). God promised to His people—and to every believer—prosperity in the land (where we live). He also said we’d be blessed with many children as well as numerous livestock and abundant crops, which we can consider today as material possessions.
In the beginning, Adam and Eve lived in God’s glorious presence, His blessing, and His abundant provision until they rebelled against the instruction He gave them. They lost their beautiful garden and extravagant provision, and most importantly, the presence of God. But, Jesus paid the price for sin and we’ve been set free from the curse. Once again, we have the presence of God and the blessings of Eden because of what Jesus did for us.
PRAYER:
Father, I praise You for returning to us the bountiful blessings of Eden—which Adam lost, but Jesus regained for those who believe. And, thank you that I can freely come into Your presence through what Jesus did on the cross for me. I receive by faith Your abundant provision for my family and me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
