SCRIPTURE:
This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.
(Luke 8:11 NIV)
DEVOTIONAL:
Do you remember the parable Jesus told about the farmer who planted seeds in four different kinds of soil—a path where the birds ate it, rocky ground, thorny ground, and good soil. Each one of these soils produced a different result, though the seeds were all the same.
Jesus explained to His disciples—and to you and me—the meaning of this parable. “The seed is the Word of God,” He told them. And we know, the Word of God is always true. It never fails! But, there are conditions that will block the Word of God from operating in your life, depending on the “soil” you place it in.
The soil represents our heart. Friend, examine your heart today. As soon as the Word of God is sown into your heart, is it plucked up by the devil, who comes to steal, kill and destroy? Do you believe His Word for a little while and then it fades from your heart because you are not firmly grounded in the truth? Or is the Word choked out by the cares, worries and busyness of this life? Any of these three scenarios guarantee failure!
Take time every day to meditate in God’s Word. Add to this, prayer and an expectation and desire to hear from God. When you give God “good soil” to plant His seed in, He will not disappoint you. You will receive truth that will make you free. And, you will not stumble or be confused… the seed of God’s Word will illuminate your path and make your steps sure.
PRAYER:
Father, my heart is good soil. Thank you for your Word that guides my life and brings me every good thing and every good plan you have for me. I praise You and thank You! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
